DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN ORANGUTAN
turn it up louder, i've got to say something, step aside now, here we march to the drumming. controlled by the power of humans, we jump when they want to see jumping, the wild is supposed to be free, but held hostage its far from it. when it gets tense, i am not laughing, cuz in the eyes of my relatives, i know what might happen. tree after tree, life after life, shot gun after shot gun, knife after knife. disapearing around me, my whole world turns grey, i cant move fast enough, all i can do is pray. i hear a crash so close, in the blink of an eye, screams of pain, flood into the sky. and the evil laugh of a heartless poacher, turns quickly into a nightmare of tourchure, i cannot bare to see, my friends scattered around, but with a bullet in my chest, i now fall to the ground. broken bones and cuts and pain, why do they do this, what is there to gain. their heartless souls, and inhumane actions, quickly break this land, into meaningless fractions.
by Emma Lokuciejewski | A Day In The Life Of A Bonobo.
Hello, I am a three year old Bonobo. I live in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (D.R.C. for short) with my family. They are all very nice and all the adults help look after us kids. I am going to tell you what the average day is for a Bonobo like me.
First I wake up and climb down the tree (we sleep in nests up in the trees) with the rest of my troop and we all go and search for food. Bonobos are frugivores which means we eat primarily fruit. We all share what we find and we only hunt when there isn’t enough food for everyone.
After we have breakfast the young Bonobos play and the adults sunbathe and relax then we all have some lunch and we wander around and play games. We like to run around and play tag and climb trees. I can do amazing gymnastics. When there is water around we like to play with water even though we don’t really swim much. In Bonobo society the females are dominant, unlike most apes that have dominant males. My grandma is the alpha female for our whole troop of 40 bonobos!
Dinner time!!! Yum. My troop found some nuts and also some honey, both of those are treats for Bonobos. We also like termites and earthworms.
It’s time for bed now. We have to make new nests, we make new nests every night. Goodnight everyone. by James Brooks |
