Ape Aware
James Brooks, vice president of KSA, created this site because he found that most ape sites were aimed at adults rather that kids. He also wanted to inform people about our closest relative, the bonobo. The site has a quiz, fun stuff, a description of the species, and ways you can make a difference!
James Brooks' 1000classrooms.org seeks to educate Western kids about Africa, apes, and the environment. The project wants to have 1000 classrooms support a project to help widows of park rangers, children, and gorillas in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
Bonobo Conservation Initiative
BCI is a not-for-profit organization who's mission is to promote conservation of the bonobo and its tropical forest habitat in the Congo Basin. An excellent website with bonobo songs, folklore, and much more!
Bonobo Kids
With the motto, Save the Bonobos: Save the World, Bonobo Kids believe that kids are the most powerful people on the planet. All profits from the sales of their book, I'm Lucy, go to the Bonobo Conservation Initiative, and Roots and Shoots. If you are interested in purchasing the book, click here.
Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund
The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund is an organization dedicated to saving the mountain gorilla. In it's early days, it was the DIgit Fund, named after Fossey's favorite mountain gorilla. Great place to consider a gorilla adoption.
Driven To Destruction
13 year old Emma made this site to raise awareness for the orang-utan, and the palm oil crisis. It has a competition, people doing their part, and facts about orangutans.
Gigantic Orange Primate Gang
This is a club run by kids - part of the reason we are in partnership. And who else is a Gigantic Orange Primate, than the magnificent orangutan? GOPG is a club of kids and teachers across the globe who fundraise to save the orangutan from extinction. If you are a member of KSA I encourage you to visit the GOPG site and consider joining with them as well.
Gorilla Haven
Founded by Jane Dewar, Gorilla Haven provides a temporary home for zoo gorillas in need. A must see website!
Gorilla.cd is the official site of the Virunga National Park. The wildlife park in which Dian Fossey studied mountain gorillas. I encourage you to donate and\or become involved through this cause. There's a blog as well as park rangers' profiles, and ways YOU can help.
Jane Goodall Institute
The one and only Dr. Jane Goodall's conservation website. A wonderful website to think about becoming a chimp guardian or donate to protect wildlife. Also, the Institute has a really interesting blog if you are interested in finding out more about the chimpanzees of Gombe.
Videos
Here are some videos I reccommend for learning more about apes. I'm sorry there aren't a lot here, check out the species pages and there will be some new videos there.
Chimps and Bonobos
This is a really neat video. It describes how although chimpanzees and bonobos are our closest relatives, and they are so alike, in the way they look, they are really quite different- bonobos believe in peace, and chimpanzees are very violent.
National Geopgraphic Ape Videos
These videos range from funny, cute, to fascinating. The bonobo one is cool. Sorry about those silly advertisements!
